My mini-review of GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE.

Short version: this is no way a criticism, but the movie is very loud, very colorful, and cuts to a monster fight whenever you start wondering about the implications of the plot.

Slightly longer version: you are not going to watch GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE for an insightful look into postwar Japan and its complicated (and somewhat externally imposed) relationship with its Imperial past. For that, watch GODZILLA MINUS ONE*. No, you’re there for the giant monsters hitting each other. Which they do with refreshing regularity, usually when you’re starting to critically look at the plot. Again: deep cinema this ain’t, and that’s all right with me. Get extra popcorn, and have a good time.

*Nope, the American version is not on Amazon yet. Dammit.
