Nicolas Cage to do live-action Spider-Noir.

Wellllll… all right? “Nicolas Cage will once again play Spider-Man Noir, but this time in a live-action series. Cage is set to star in the live-action show “Noir,” which has been ordered to series at MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.” It’d be — okay, fine, if it was anybody but Cage I’d worry that the live-action part would be far too stupid. But Nick Cage lives in the ‘far too stupid.’ He was born to it, was raised in it, he has made it his own*. So this might work.

*Or whatever the quote is. I’m too lazy to look it up right now.

  1. I know almost nothing about Spider-Noir … but it has potential…..

Noir should work well with Cage’s screen chewing as well.

I guess we can hope it’s not… too extra?

  2. It could work.
    I don’t expect it to.

The script would have to be written by writers who eschew The Message, bathos, and fourth wall breaks.
The director would have to embrace protagonist narration, and exercise restraint.
In today’s Hollywood, I don’t see either happening.

The casting is good, but I still think it’s doomed.

    1. Green Hornet didn’t work.
      The Saint didn’t work.

Both failed for reasons you mentioned.

Oh, and the Fantastic Four attempts suffered from the same issues.. along with not understanding the source material.

      Spider-Noir … it depends.

      1. I seem to recall the Saint being… *okay*, at least.

I mean, it suffered from a bad case of hollywood science, and it was enough years ago that I don’t remember it *all* that well, but I seem to recall enjoying watching it.

  3. Spider-Noir doesn’t seem like the type of character that could hold his own as the central protagonist.

Also, Cage is 60 years old, which doesn’t really seem like an optimal situation to portray a superhero
