I’m fine with that. Partially because I do watch at least some anime: but also because it means that THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM won’t be filled with ugly characters. I’m not impressed with the current aesthetic for Western-style animation, to put it mildly. Right now, anime is simply the best stylistic choice for an animated Lord of the Rings project.

Writer have said they’re going Girl-boss for main character. Big shock there.
Well, to be fair, Eowyn was pretty damn hardcore. It ain’t that much of a stretch, this time.
I don’t know what “girlboss” means, but I do know I have actively disliked the examples of it I’ve been given.
If the writers are Japanese, I might like it. (They’ve done a great job incorporating English folklore into anime with The Magnus Bride and elsewhere.)
If the writers are from Hollywood, I almost certainly won’t.
Japanese director, Japanese animation studio. Produced by Phillipa Boyens, who did the screenplay for LotR, King Kong, Lovely Bones, and the Hobbit movies — basically, she’s best buds with Peter Jackson. Dunno if that’s a net plus, negative, or a wash for you. 🙂 Anyway, the script got redone by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, who are fellow New Zealanders (like Boyens) who couldn’t actually leave the country because of the lockdown. That link below claims that they’re mad for both anime and Tolkien, which is honestly what I want to hear.
Sooooo… you pays your money and you takes your chances, I guess. 🙂

I looked into it more.
And am horrified.
The interview positively screams “we never read the books”. And THE MESSAGE.
