CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD made Judenfrei?

Well, that’s not going to be controversial at all.

In a blog post on Marvel’s official website announcing the trailer, more details on those involved were shared. Among those was the introduction of actress Shira Haas, who joins the series as Ruth Bat-Seraph. Ruth Bat-Seraph is better known for her superhero alias Sabra in the world of Marvel Comics.

In the comics, Sabra is a mutant who was a member of the Mossad, the Israeli secret service.

For Brave New World, however, the character has been changed a bit. Now, Marvel describes the character as a “former Black Widow, Ruth is now a high-ranking U.S. government official who has the trust of President Ross.”

Can’t wait to see the backtracking on this one. And if there’s no backtracking? Well. Plan your movie choices accordingly.

  1. I believe they are trying to sidestep all aspects of the Middle East clashes by reimagining her and relocating her origins; thus the “former Black Widow.”

Attempting to avoid dealing with contentious issues makes it looks like they lack the moral courage to make a stand. They probably should have just gone with a different character.

  2. I am now officially boycotting the flick.

Granted, my interest in seeing it approached zero before this revelation. Only Cap is Cap. Accept no substitutes.

  3. Sounds like a movie that was made for (insert timpani flourish here) MODERN AUDIENCES. I checked out after Captain Marvel.
