Today in Shut up and take my money, damn your eyes:
Pelgrane Press is terrified to announce that The Yellow King Roleplaying Game is coming soon to a Kickstarter near you.
Written and designed by GUMSHOE master Robin D. Laws, YKRPG takes you on a brain-bending spiral through multiple selves and timelines.
One of the interesting things about Lovecraft’s cosmic horror paradigm is that the Cthulhu Mythos has been remarkably resilient over the last eighty years or so: there’s always something new to say in it. And I think that our generation’s primary contribution to the Mythos has been the Hastur / Carcosa / King in Yellow tropes; the feelings of disassociation and surrealism (both of which are of course couched in terms of horror) match the modern era’s long term anxieties and concerns. We don’t have to wait for Carcosa to manifest itself: it already has.
…Well, not really, but it’s always ‘not really’ when it comes to horror tropes. We use horror in art to come to terms with the horrors in our daily life, and as such get those latter horrors under control. After all, as HP Lovecraft famously noted: the most primal fear is the fear of the unknown. Name your fears, and you diminish them.
Why is the universe so against me saving my entertainment allowance for big purchases?
(I say this piece of existential wailing with the full knowledge that I deliberately kept a number of tabs open to purchase specific ebooks until March 1st so that I wouldn’t blow past my self-imposed budget.)
I wonder how different this will be from the Hastur/Yellow Sign materials in the Delta Green sourcebooks. Same company, right?
Nope. Delta Green is out of Arc Dream Publishing. Fall of Delta Green is from Pelgrane Press, as this will be. But everybody involved runs in the same social circles.
