Because I’ve got Iron Fist cheerfully penciled in for watching in my copious free time, I am an enthusiastic cultural appropriator, and I’d STILL watch the heck out of this. Assuming that it didn’t suck, of course. But, yeah, twist my arm and make me watch a drawling Chinese gunslinger sharp-shoot her way across a suitably lawless locale. The horror. The horror.
reverse iron fist: a chinese girl's plane goes down over the texas wilderness. she returns years later with the mystical art of gunslinging

I’d watch the heck out of that concept. Sounds awesome.
They could call this awesome show “The Equalizer”.
Wait, they remade The Equalizer with a hot Asian woman gunslinger? How did I miss that? 🙂
Yeah, I’d watch that.
Of course, to do it right, she needs to earn her powers by defeating a magic jackalope in an extradimensional city with a portal in Texas, so she can make her bullets glow and punch through walls.
Seriously, Japanese anime and manga appropriate Western culture all the time. Blue Exorcist basically uses Christianity as the exotic source of magic power. I thought it was pretty cool, though the understanding of Christian doctrine was amusingly off in places.
Besides, I tend to think that Asian martial arts is more a case of cultural imperialism than appropriation. They more or less sent missionaries here: http://www.tor.com/2017/03/17/a-brief-history-of-iron-fist-in-the-comics/
Anyway, I thought Iron Fist was pretty good. There are more mixed reviews out there–and some which I think are ridiculously negative–but you can read my thoughts here: http://www.donaldscrankshaw.com/2017/03/iron-fist-review.html
I like the idea. Not sure I’d *watch* it, depends on how it’s laid out, but it’s intriguing.
.
I’m picturing something between AMC’s “Preacher” and “Into the Badlands” franchises ..
.
Mew
The premise sounds awesome.
.
Although it’s readily apparent that the author of the pitch doesn’t realize there’s a great deal of mysticism about the Old West and skillfully employing a six shooter.
I feel sorry for him.
Texas Gun-Fu with the next Lucy Liu?
Yeah. I’m all-in.
Does she get big revolvers with sandalwood grips, and say things like Thankee-Sai? I would be inclined to watch anything that had Gunslingers in it.
Clearly the Texas Rangers are a front organization for a group of mystic gunslingers. I thought everyone knew that.
And I’m imagining “Galaxy Rangers” mixed with whatever that wacky assassin “spin your hand and you can make bullets curve” movie was.
The Texas Rangers were one of the most impressive paramilitary organizations in history.
There’s no need to invoke camp. Much of a they actually did is more than enough to inspire superstitious awe.
My favorite Ranger story is about a Ranger who was involved in a shootout with a bad dude. They were both hiding out in the tall grass and the Ranger called out to suggest that they both get up and settle this like men. And then, as the Ranger would later bemusedly recount for the rest of his life, that poor, stupid son-of-a-bitch stood up.
As I recall, in Deadlands, the Texas Rangers became the CSA’s MiB agency responsible for dealing with the weird and evil stuff that happens.
And as I recall, one of those Deadlands Rangers is a fellow by the name of Ken Hite.
Just watched the first three episodes of Iron Fist…pretty slow to get going…
But, I like the reverse Iron Fist idea…
I just watched the first episode of Iron Fist, and it was excellent. Outstanding, even. It was tight, it was tense, it established the frame, and nailed the character of Danny. (It also ends on one hell of a cliffhanger.)
.
I think the main issue people are having with it, is that it’s not a Fantasy of Power, but a Fantasy of Powerlessness. Danny is a martial arts master, but very few problems can be solved by punching someone in the face. Especially when the shadowy conspiracy card is in play.
Reverse Iron Fist gunslinger?
Mystical Texas Rangers?
Sign me up for both!
We should be so lucky.
I watched the entire Iron Fist series this weekend. I thought it was really good and am looking forward to the defenders.
This idea about the Chinese chick would be really cool, but Lucy lu should play the girls older sister who we think died in the crash but comes back midway through as a major villian. The actress who played Colleen Wing in Iron Fist would be awesome as the hero here (but I admit to not knowing a lot of Asain actresses) Sam Eliot needs to be the guy who finds and trains here. Tom Sellick needs to show up at some point because he makes such a great cowboy. The mystic animals that give her power should be Cyotes. I could go on.
Grace Park and Kelly Hu should be involved in some capacity. Ming-na Wen would be a good choice too. Or Linda Park from Enterprise. Another good choice would be Yifei Liu from The Forbidden Kingdom.
I second Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot, and raise you a Tommy Lee Jones.
