I’m currently trying to come up with a good reason why Queen Elizabeth II wouldn’t go punk in this alternate 1980s RPG setting thing I’m thinking of. Mohawk and all. I mean, yeah, she’d be like in her mid-fifties in the early Eighties, but she’d have, I dunno, mystic Royal Bardic oomph or something and who’s gonna tell her ‘no?’

Is the medium for the magic changing over time?

If so, then yeah, she’s totally punk, but would have been totally glam just a few years earlier..

Don’t forget the fascination with Princess Di. Imagine her going punk or new wave.
I am partial to this version…

Except Punk is about rebellion. What the heck is the Queen of England rebelling against? Unless it’s her own image. Hmm. Might work, especially with a Prince and the Pauper kind of thing.
OTOH, a progressive rock, 30 minute keyboard solos and all might be a better fit.
There’s plenty of room for rebellion, especially within the Duty of her Image you mentioned. That Duty is quite restraining. She cannot abdicate, but must carry out Duties of State as if she still wields the power she is no longer allowed to use(at least publicly).

I imagine the meta-arcana of Punk Rebellion would involve some sort of wild-magic/randomized-force-of-chaos component.
I don’t know how you accompany this post with the video of a Sex Pistols song that is not God Save the Queen, and without due consideration to whether it would exist in this universe, and if so whether it would be an homage with different lyrics, or maybe even her own creation.
Because I’m still thinking about it. 🙂
Given the backstory for the Sex Pistols, that … could work almost any way you want it…

p.s. do I get bonus points for the Journey ref?
Fair ’nuff.
