Traveling Wilburys worked way better than it had any right to do. I think probably having Roy Orbison helped a lot, what an underrated talent.
Roy Orbison’s main talent seems to have been knocking the ‘rough edges’ off bands ..

It’s hard to rate that, though .. so yeah, underrated .. but if you listen to the Wilburys and then listen to some of Orbison’s solo work .. his influence gets really obvious.

Agreed that Roy Orbison was talented, but I think that having Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne in the band still kind of helped. 🙂
I’ve always regarded the Wilburys as Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Lynne doing a retirement benefit for Roy Orbison .. because *they* understood his value.
