David Leitch in talks to direct Enter The Dragon remaWHOA WHOA WHOA BACK IT UP, SON.

Excuse moi, si vous-plait? “David Leitch, who was behind the camera on this year’s smash hit Deadpool 2, has begun early talks to helm the upcoming remake to the Bruce Lee 1973 classic Enter the Dragon, according to Deadline.”

All right.
Stop.
Collaborate, and listen*.

Why are they remaking Enter the Dragon?  Who were they planning to put in the lead role? — This is not an idle question. Enter the Dragon was a showcase movie for Bruce Lee.  It was, in fact, more or less constructed around him, in order to allow Lee to show off his chops as both a martial artist and an actor.  Who’s going to be the lead on this?  Who has the majestic self-confidence to do the role that made Bruce Lee an icon?  And why don’t I have a clue as to who that person might be, because I’ll tell you truthful: I do not.

Sorry, David, but unless you’ve got a clone of Bruce Lee in a vat back at the lab — well, OK, that would be awesome.  it would also make for a good movie, huh? They grew Bruce Lee in a lab, but he’s escaped, and he thinks that it’s the early 1970s.  Gold, Jerry! Gold!

*Sorry about that.

    1. And I fear not to express my ignorance, it’s entirely possible there is an amazing actor doing work purely in far-east films I am unfamiliar with. Unlikely, but not impossible.

      1. If there is, I would expect that word about him would have gotten out to the US by now. The US is a lucrative market, after all. And martial arts movies are much more respected in the US than they were back then (when they were best known as the movies with the REALLY bad dubs).

        So… hmmm…

        We’ll see.

On a related note, and probably just as importantly, I’d expect anyone that good to want to reveal themselves to the West in their *own* star vehicle, and not in a remake that immediately invites comparisons with Bruce Lee.

  1. “They grew Bruce Lee in a lab, but he’s escaped, and he thinks that it’s the early 1970s”

    I’d watch that.

  2. I will take a guess and say either Jason Statham or Tony Jaa.

Neither are a good substitute. (I would still watch it though.)

  3. Or do an end around and cast someone clearly awful for the role in the lead? Say, Kristen Stewart from Twilight?

          1. That movie also already exists. The moive is a little harder to find. You have to know people.

    1. There is a whole genre “Brueploitation”. Either something is hideously wrong, or something is hilariously right.
