Got sent a Steam code. Stellaris is a galactic resource strategy game. It’s very easy to lose yourself in it. As you can see.

Paradox tends to make good strategy games. And they release a huge amount of dlc add-ons, and those dlc add-ons tend to be accompanied by additional content that’s free for everyone. This is both good – these add a lot of content to the game over time, and they tend to be useful – and also bad. Specifically, what was a core branch of the game can suddenly be overthrown when a new dlc – and its attendant release – arrives on the scene. This can particularly be a bit of a nuisance when you’re trying to figure out how to play one of their games that’s been out for a couple of years, and the tutorial article you’re reading starts frequently referencing a part of the game that no longer works the way it’s described in the article.
Having said that, I own a few of their products – Crusader Kings II, Cities: Skylines, Hearts of Iron IV, and Stellaris. Stellaris is probably the second most complex out of the four. But Crusader Kings II makes it look like a kindergarten toy. That game is *DEEP*. And good. Its world map currently stretches all the way from the Atlantic to the borders of China. They had to stop somewhere, after all, and according to them, China would have been too complicated to model properly. Though the latest dlc for the game added them as a neighbor that needs to be kept appeased.
I must know more…is this game single player, and does it play in a manner similar to Master of Orion?
It’s single-player, and it has some similarities with Master of Orion. If you’re interested, I suggest you check YouTube. There should be plenty of gameplay and tutorial videos there.
I’m giddy with excitement for the upcoming patch (2.2). They’re actually re-working, from the ground up, both the entire economic system and the entire planetary management system.
Which are the two parts of the game that are the most poorly modeled, currently.
