So, I maybe watch one movie a year that doesn’t involve explosions or starships or fireballs or whatnot and it’s always interesting to see what will engage m — what’s that? There’s a Tolkien biopic coming out?
Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment have set a May 10 release date for biographical drama Tolkien. Directed by Finnish filmmaker Dome Karukoski, the film stars Nicholas Hoult as J.R.R. Tolkien, the celebrated author and English professor whose body of work includes the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series. Lily Collins plays Edith Bratt, Tolkien’s great love and eventual wife who inspired the elven princess characters in the Lord of the Rings saga.
Well, then. Guess the empty spot on the roster has been filled. Heck, that even might end up being a date night movie.

PS: I will admit that there is a part of me hoping that, twenty minutes into the movie, something glows blue and then Jack and Edith spend the rest of the movie sword-and-zapping their way through a CGI fantasy apocalyptic wonderland. But only a small part of me. The rest of me would like a turn at choosing what the entertainment will be, for once.
I’d think that there’s a chance for some explosions while he’s in WW1, so you may get a bonus on this one.
I’d almost guarantee it. Tolkien was at The Battle of the Somme.
While he wasn’t at all of Somme due to his poor health and getting taken off line, and it was the first one. The Second Battle of Somme is much much worse.
