Which would make sense: they’d want to start as soon as possible, but Scarlet Johannson’s been busy. Director is apparently Cate Shortland, who is an Australian director who I had not heard of previously. Marvel-Disney seems to be getting a decent amount of its talent from Oceania lately, and it’s hard to argue with success, hey?
Anyway, The Black Widow flick is supposed to be set in 2006, which means that my hope for a Rashomon-like examination of What Happened In Budapest from multiple perspectives* remains intact. I’d watch that. I’d watch the heck out of it.

*I think that my working list** is currently: Black Widow’s; Hawkeye’s; the villain’s; and Agent Coulson’s, because he absolutely needs to be the case officer on this one. …Yeah. Tell me you wouldn’t watch that, too.
**I seem to dimly remember that many people have hashed out this concept, so it may not be exclusively mine. Probably isn’t.
Interesting theory/rumor here: “This production date may also help feed the idea that Katherine Langford will be playing a young Natasha Romanova in Endgame as she just dyed her hair red.” Young Black Widow movies could give fans content even after Scarlet’s contract in the role ends, whenever that might be.
