Quibi is apparently this upcoming streaming service which plans to make a small fortune by taking a large fortune and using it to make movie-lengthed shows that can be watched in ten minute chunks. Oh, sorry, did I type that out? My bad. But admittedly, FLIPPED doesn’t actually look too bad.
It’s a cute idea for a movie. Or, apparently, it’s a cute idea for somewhere between twelve and forty-eight mini-movies. Whether or not it is the killer product that will pay back over a billion dollars for its investors is another story entirely*.

PS: If Quibi goes mega-profitable simply because I laughed at it here then I would like to see some trouble for my time, thank you. Doesn’t have to be much. Just enough to wet my beak.
*ANNOUNCER: “It did not.”
It looks like a hilarious movie. I’m not sold on Quibi.
Actually, trying to storytelling using the old serial format from back in the day seems like a really good idea.
.
There’s lots of stories out there (Dune is perhaps the canonical example) of something that’s just too long to fit into the movie format, and there’s really not a viable niche for it anywhere else.
.
Maybe the “next big idea” for movies will be figuring out how to something that’s not in a single 120 minute chunk.
It occurred to me just as I was pushing Submit that it seems like this is what a lot of the Disney+ MCU shows are (or at least that’s my impression).
