PSA: say nobody’s there to take your call *first*.

Look, I get that UPS is dealing with a pandemic. Sure. We all are. That doesn’t mean they can’t say up front Look, nobody’s going to take your call. Especially when they tell you throughout the process that somebody will take your call.

That’s the part that bugs me, really; hell, all I wanted to know was what the problem was. Flat tire on the truck? Nobody there to drive it? The fulfillment center’s in flames? Any specific information will do here, folks.

PS: I will be extra-cranky if the damn thing shows up today after all. I know that this is unreasonable of me, mind you. Or very possibly more unreasonable of me, because we are in the middle of a pandemic and maybe UPS just didn’t have the time to fully test their automated system before updating it. And yet, here we are.

  1. FedEx seems to have realized what UPS has missed .. they aren’t just selling shipping services, they’re also selling *information about shipments*.
    .
The Post Office has realized this information can be a profit center – they charge for tracking.

I’m .. not really surprised the penny hasn’t quite dropped for Brown yet ..

  2. How hard is it to have your system say “we don’t have any representatives right now. If you still want to interact with our automated system, please stay on the line”?
