I read the headline, and I snorted and said, “Because the idea itself sucked.” As I have done in the past, particularly when they canceled the show after that apparently disastrous pilot. Then I clicked through, and saw that Craig McCracken said… the idea itself sucked:
“I had one meeting with them and I told them, ‘When you turn them into adults, they’re no longer the Powerpuff Girls because if they’re adults, that’s just three super girls who didn’t have to deal with being kids. That’s a completely different show.”
…I agree with GeekTyrant, here. They probably should’ve listened to him, huh? Then again, McCracken was only the guy who came up with the original concept. I hope he took them to the damn cleaners over granting the option, too.

PS: Of course they should have listened to me, too! Everyone should! I’m can be pretty smart, sometimes.
Followed the link to read the rest of the article, did you watch the very old clip of Robin Williams trying to read one line of script? Man was brilliant, makes me wish they would release the rumored miles of film of him improving his lines for Mrs Doubtfire.
