I was just struck by an idle thought: what we’re dealing with now is a country ruled by people who fancy themselves as being philosopher-kings.
How’s that working out for everybody else? – because, personally, I’d be happier if more members of our self-appointed elitist class knew how to replace a fan belt. Or a brake light. Or a windshield wiper.
“Ruled” is the problem. The Founding Fathers meant for citizens to choose leaders, not rulers. That whole mindset, together with calling us plebes the “masses” is SO NOT what the Shining City Upon a Hill is about.
