You know who this helps? Mitt Romney, that’s who.
Mitt Romney is running for president, and I am proud to endorse him.
The general reaction among the blogosphere*? Rapid blinking of the eyes. Lots of people didn’t see this one coming. Including me. Personally, speaking as a former Pawlenty guy… no, sorry, Tim. I’d have followed you to the nomination, but I won’t follow Mitt Romney. He gets the nod, that’s one thing – I’m a good Republican, and better him as President than Obama by far – but Romney’s not my first, second, or even third choice.
Nothing personal. And nothing personal for Romney, either: him getting the endorsement is good news for Romney’s campaign.

*As well as, I’m hearing, from Pawlenty’s own former staffers.
It tells me that Pawlenty is more of an establishment GOPer, and a politician than I’d thought, and that he is interested in a job in the Romney administration. *shrug*
Eh, where’s the surprise here? Blue state squishy governor realizes he can’t fake being a conservative well enough to get the nomination, so he endorses other blue state squishy governor to try and keep a real conservative from winning. Whether that’s from ideology or pragmatism, it’s hard to say.
A real disappointment.
Frankly, given how lame his primary campaign was, this decision seems like more of the same. I guess, on paper, this helps Romney, but Pawlenty had zero traction and non existent popular support. What practical advantage does this give Romney? “Hey the first guy to drop out, likes me!”
Pawlenty should have run for a third term. Then Minnesota would be in Wisconsin’s position. Getting better as opposed to just not getting worse.
I really hope Perry realizes what’s in store for him in Florida where Pawlenty had serious pockets of support among the establishment Republicans. There’s a behind-the-scenes, often quiet, lining up of power and money for Romney.
I started out with hopes for Pawlenty and then I felt taken aback when he bailed so early. That led me to wonder if he really wanted it to begin with.
Otherwise, glad to see you’re back on the blog and trust you are doing well.
Aww, I was going to support Tim Pawlenty for a Senate run. Now, not so sure.
