Anyway, via @Yousefzadeh here’s a tasty, tasty bit of pain from FireDogLake to feast upon. The topic of discussion: SOPA/PIPA, and why it is that pretty much all of the politicians that unambiguously confirmed that they were abandoning their support of either were Republicans.
Attention can get raised on issues that normally stay behind the scenes, and those politicians responsive to public opinion will shift their view. The problem is that this power relationship only works when the politicians listen to their grassroots. And in general terms, that describes the Republican relationship to the Tea Party, not the Democratic relationship to their grassroots. The Tea Party has struck fear into their party; the progressive movement inspires laughter. And that’s why you saw the movement you saw yesterday.
Precisely. And it will stay that way until progressives and netrooters teach themselves to no longer be abjectly terrified of what will happen if any Democrat loses an election to any Republican. Which is to say, it will stay that way for a while: those poor folks have far too much of their self-image tied up in us being demons.
Bless their hearts.
My take? Less “There Will Be Blood”, more “Conan the Barbarian”, to be honest.

The most beautiful thing about this is: that people like Dayen and Kos can tell lefty activists exactly what they did; and then people like Moe and Pej can confirm that and openly gloat about it; and THEN…nothing will change.
The dismissal of the power of the tech sector seems–um–stupid? I know Hollywood’s got a lotta dough, but Facebook, Google, Wikipedia–ain’t chicken feed.

That is the Beauty of the system when they don’t respond to the base, some of the base stop responding to them. How many of the base do you think won’t turn out to vote, it doesn’t take a lot to flip an election. That’s why they like to cheat!
