(Viia AoSHQ) That being his magical ride to the land of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. Because Jon Lovitz is on his way!
When the “Saturday Night Live” alum chided President Barack Obama for saying the rich don’t pay their fair share earlier this year, he ended up letting a security escort walk him to his car.
Lovitz tells Big Hollywood that his now infamous podcast rant against Obama’s class warfare rhetoric led to death threats left on the voice mail of his Universal City-based comedy club.
“I know where you eat,” one message warned.
Now, mind you: Jon Lovitz still probably thinks that he doesn’t actually have to stop being a Democrat and/or a liberal. Then again, you never do… up to the point where it is made clear that you will be leaving, whether you like it or not. The good news? You typically end up liking it, after all. There’s an amazing amount of stupidity that you can finally stop having to humor, which makes a difference.
So, should be fun to watch. Especially the part where Lovitz finally realizes that he’s free at last.

Mugged by reality, was he? Moe, you should point out to Jon that the dark side has cookies….. 😉
Interesting party game… name people on the other side who you wish were on your side and explain why. Name people on your side who you wish were on the other side and explain why.
Dang qixlqatl—gonna say ‘I make the BEST chocolate chip cookies evah’—-
Who wants Scarborough? Anyone?!?
Oh, and Hi Jon!! *blows kiss*
The sharp points always, Always get beaten down.Welcome to the Jungle, your not gonna like it! Dummy!
I’m not a rock & roll fan, but it would be cool if Springsteen came over.
Moe, was this how it started with you? You sound like you are talking with experience on this subject.
BG5: To a certain extent. In retrospect, the tipping over started when somebody went absolutely ballistic and petulant when I told him that he couldn’t call Republicans names in the comments section of an old site of mine*; even the Lefties that defended me on that were doing so because I was on the Good List, not because the Republican party was full of, you know, human beings and stuff.
Ach, well, it’s the Internet. I know plenty of normal Democrats in real life. Heck, I know plenty of normal liberals, even.

*Iironically, I’m a lot more relaxed on name-calling in these, my more partisan days. Although it’s a bad habit to get into, especially if you’re at that stage where you can’t make yourself NOT name-call the President and/or the Democratic party. I’m not saying that it makes you sloppy; I’m saying that a lot of sloppy would-be partisan political hacks have that habit.
Anyone suspect this is one of those ‘..leading up to..’ exercises? Like say,… he ‘flips’ long about 11/8/2012?
An ‘I’ve seen the light moment’ and a whole new bunch of fans?
Nnnaaahhh, couldn’t be….could it…?
Same transformation happened to Ronald Reagan.
A conservative is often a liberal who has been mugged by reality. Some of us learn this earlier in life, some later.
I would suspect he becomes a libertarian of sorts, but rather than focus on his own politics he’ll make a hobby out of beating his liberal haters like a rented mule.
Disliking class warfare rhettiric and not being a blind follower of Obama, and noting how nasty cult followers can be, hardly puts him on the right.
Having listend to him he approves of self-reliance but positions beyond that? Who knows. Dont count him as a Republican just yet or you will likely feel betrayed in the future.
My personal observation is along the lines of Heartbreak Ridge. Lovitz, like a lot of folks in the biz, believe that hard work earns individual award, personal freedom and responsibility, and live and let live. In other words, much more libertarian and free market (i.e. right) than collectivist (i.e. left). They are, however, also deathly afraid of not being part of the cool-kids in-crowd and have bought the Left line that those Republicans are fuddy-duddy stick-in-the-mud boring and stupid folks, not at all “like us.”
As Moe says, this probably won’t be a matter of choice for Lovitz. If he insists on speaking his mind and (heaven forfend) making sense, the Democrats will likely run him out on a rail, figuratively speaking… as they did with Joe Lieberman and many others.
Lovitz will then have a choice between the group that welcomes him (with whom he’s not sure he’s entirely comfortable yet), and the group he thought he belonged to that sends & condones death threats. It’s not an easy choice, but it’s not a complicated one either.
Moe: pretty amazing, isn’t it, how much trouble you can get into, just for insisting that your political opponents are not all of them monsters? (It makes you wonder just how much people have invested in believing that their opponents ARE monsters…)
If a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged, and a liberal is a conservative who has been arrested, when you go through both you end up a libertarian (small-l, please).
I’ve heard this from lots of former-Democrat-now-happily-Republican people in public life. People who deviate even slightly from the party line turn into Unpersons. It’s bad for the Left in two ways:
First, it’s a sign of how monolithic the Left is. Could you imagine republicans trying to police that? I’ve seen groups try and they just can’t pull it off. And not just because of the whole fiscal conservative vs social conservative vs foreign policy conservative vs libertarian thing. Even within our ideological camps we can’t enforce doctrinal purity. Somehow the left can.
Where are they going to get their new ideas from? Well, actually, let me rephrase that. Why haven’t they had any new ideas in the past few decades? Because anyone who upsets the apple cart becomes Emmanuel Goldstein.
The second problem with this is that conservatives seem fine with heterodoxy. And once you get a toe in the water, and realize that conservatives aren’t a bunch of racist evil morons, you start listening to arguments you’ve never really heard before.
In other words, liberal intolerance for one another is like a recruiting poster for conservatives. Plus, it’s poisoned their policy-making even as it’s sharpened their political gamesmanship.
@CarlB – I couldn’t agree more, bit it ain’t never gonna happen. And The Boss may have burned enough bridges by now that I don’t think he can be trusted.
