What. The. Hell?
OK. Very quickly: this is a short video about the California Condor.
To summarize said video: they are an incredibly endangered species of bird whose ugliness on the ground and up close is easily matched by their beauty in the sky. And I mean incredibly endangered: there are about 300 of them left*. This is… this is one of the birds that the environmentalists are trying to keep alive, all right? As in, some of the more radical ones are prepared to lose fingers if that’s what it’d take. And I’m not criticizing! I don’t mind making a little room for the damn condors! The Greenies can win this one!
So I don’t get what the heck is going on in the Obama administration’s decision-making process, here:
Federal wildlife officials took the unprecedented step Friday of telling private companies that they will not be prosecuted for inadvertently harassing or even killing endangered California condors.
In a decision swiftly condemned by conservationists and wildlife advocates, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said operators of Terra-Gen Power’s wind farm in the Tehachapi Mountains will not be prosecuted if their turbines accidentally kill a condor during the expected 30-year life span of the project.
…Oh. Of course. Wind farms. I keep forgetting: condors can’t make campaign contributions.

*To paraphrase SM Stirling, a joke on that is as follows:
Q. How do you detect a California Condor in the wild?
A. You look for the bird surrounded by four ornithologists, all armed with clubs.
The Dems cannot function if the greens come into conflict with the unions and/or the pro-Dem industry types.

This is a wedge we can use….
