Iraqis vote in landmark elections
Iraqis are electing new provincial councils in the first nationwide vote in four years, with the Sunni minority expected to turn out in strength.

After a slow start, correspondents said voting was brisk, including among Sunni Muslims, who largely boycotted the last elections.

The vote is seen as a test of Iraq’s stability ahead of a general election due later this year.

Security is tight and thousands of observers are monitoring the polls.

They expect the Sunnis to come out to the polls this time – good news – and they think that the Shi’ites will increase the power of the more secular and national parties – also good news.  Well, it’s good news if you’re a fundamentally decent person who hasn’t spent the last five years doing your damnedest* to throw these people on the fire.  Those folks are busy pretending that they meant something different all along; the truly sad among them will try to pretend that it’s all due to their man-god.  Who, by the way, would be subject to a full heaping level of my scorn about his past stance on Iraq if only I thought that he wasn’t always lying through his teeth about it.  So: excellent day for us, bad day for the “peace” movement.

But, hey: there’s always Afghanistan. Maybe they can get all of them killed.
