Via Deadspin, but that’s the message: Mike Ditka knows that he should have run for Senate in 2004. He so totally knows. He’s kind of sorry about not doing that.
And even though it’s Deadspin, this is true:
I’m not saying someone should write a sequel to The Man in the High Castle set in an alternate universe where Mike Ditka became president, but I’m totally saying it.
Although why anybody would consider this a dystopia is… oh, right. Deadspin. Which is to say, Gawker.

Oh my…

Moe, there is your NaNoWriMo subject. Write it! Write it!
Deadspin and io9 are on my “do not click links” list speficially because of the Gawker affiliation.
Those… chaps… don’t deserve any of my traffic.
Heh. Ditka still had (still has, for that matter) enough cachet to pull it off, and would have been a better pick to try to win than Alan Keyes…
.
Thing is, the power in the Illinois GOP, at that time, didn’t *want* to win… that was about the time the civil war in the IL-GOP split it completely apart.

Not sure they really want to now either. The states finance are circling the drain and no one wants to be in charge when it sinks. Which is why Daly probably bowed out also.
Yep, the Dems want a GOPer in when it cracks up, just like the Jersey Dems wanted Christie.
.
The Combine wants a non-Combine guy to take the fall .. ideally a dirty one.
.
The best hope would be a solid numbers-wonk GOP mayor or other administrator .. Rutherford has the numbers background and is an administrator, unlike the rest of the GOP hopefuls, who appear to be legislators or total outsiders.
.
Unless Quinn the Imbecile thinks he’s due to retire, he is probably stupid enough to want to keep running until the crack-up .. which may be the best option.

Gary f*ing Sinise 2014 have Rutherford advise him on financial matters while he browbeats Madigan
Rutherford has declared, Sinise – while I agree a superior candidate – has not.
.
Change that, whole ‘nother ballgame.

The US Congress isn’t big enough for Mike Ditka.
