I have been told that James Carville is actually rather nice, in public. I’m not entirely sure I believe that, but fine. The problem is that he also thinks in terms of clan and tribe when it comes to politics.
“I suspect she didn’t want Louie Gohmert rifling through her e-mails, which seems to me to be a kind of reasonable position for someone to take,” Carville said. “Just like everything else before it, it amounts to nothing but a bunch of people flapping their jaws about nothing.”
For those unfamiliar, Gohmert is an outspoken conservative member of Congress who often jousts with Democrats. But he’s also a member of Congress, which is precisely the body that Republicans are accusing Clinton of trying to avoid with her “homebrew” e-mail server.
…which makes statements like Carville’s problematical. Comes right down to it: it is not reasonable for a Secretary of State to want to avoid oversight from a member of the House Judiciary Committee, or indeed any other full Member of Congress. The American people put Louie Gohmert in his position, fully aware that he was going to use it to be a pain in the rear. Presumably they’re all right with that; if it sufficiently bothers the American people they’ll have an opportunity to flip the House back to Democratic control in 2016.
Spoiler warning: the American people are not going to flip the House back to Democratic control in 2016. Which means that former Secretary Clinton had best cough up that server. Because apparently enough people in the media actually do want her off the gameboard to make simply burying this story a nonstarter…
I expect the server – or at least a backup** of the server – will surface either in December 2015 or in early 2017..
.
When becomes a function of how well she can keep the lid on. I would be not in the least surprised to learn that a backup has fallen into Team Obama’s hands .. they’re quite good at exposing skeletons to get what they want. The question is .. what do they want?
.

.
** surely Team Clinton did backups .. if only because some techie wanted to have dirt for self-protection…I suppose Team Clinton may not have been aware of the backups, which puts them in the same position as the IRS, ironically.
Heh. I’d definitely want some self-protection if did any work, in any capacity, for the Clintons. Would hate to end up as, what…#48 on the list?
But Moe, you sailed past the point where James Carville’s defense makes no logical sense.
.
Clinton became Secretary in 2009. GOP got into power in 2011. This wasn’t about Republicans vs Democrats. Hillary Clinton just didn’t want any oversight, period.
It is a quandary – should you join the administration and ride its coattails; or should you strike an independent path?
Either way secure your info.
(mind you I would have thought of doing the securing better by having at least three e-mail accounts: the official, the personal, and the cloak-and-dagger. So when the request comes for the official agree, saying “I have nothing to hide; here it is.” For the personal respond “Here are my pictures of my grandchild.”
The other does not exist and no one knows of it.
Well, yes, that’s what a competent person would have done.
