I haz book cover! Shaenon Garrity finished it up, several months ahead of schedule because she’s cool that way. Do consider her for your future illustration needs; the entire process was smooth and professional, from start to finish. And just in time for the Kickstarter, too. Which starts in four days. Whee!

…No, I don’t know if that’s a happy whee, a stress whee, or a panicky whee! Maybe all three? It’s been a long day.

More general stuff today than usual. It’s actually noisier around here than normal, thanks to the stayintine: fortunately, there are no deadlines currently looming, so I just count the days until the Kickstarter comes and try to get the wordcount to flow. I’m also trying to get over ego and pride when it comes to getting professional feedback, but that’s every day that ends with a Y.

I haven’t done one of these in a few days, because it kind of got insane out there. But it’s interesting to see just how little the ongoing pandemic has actually affected my schedule or anything. FROZEN DREAMS is mostly going to be a digital reward Kickstarter, after all. I say ‘mostly’ because I will be offering a $20 tier for a physical copy of the book, after all. It’ll come two months after the digital rewards, you’d be better off getting the book yourself out of Amazon, and, sure, it’ll be a signed one of twenty-six and that’s nice*. But what the heck: it’s not my job to tell people how to spend their money.

Kickstarter starts April 1st.

*Yeah, I’m stealing those ideas.

I have a copy-editor! I had mentioned the issue to an old buddy of mine, and he said I’ll keep an eye out.  You asked [X], right? And I replied Why no, I did not ask [X], because apparently I am an idiot. Let me go ask [X] now.

So that’s settled, then. After this I just have to wait for the Kickstarter to start and the money pots to fill up enough for me to be able to pay for things. Huzzah! …Oh, I have to keep writing, figure out advertising strategies, and worry that nobody’s gonna buy the books and I’ll have to go work in a gas station, but that’s just normal stuff.

Mostly I worked on what will be the stretch goals (more stories, to start with) if we manage to fund. But I got a bunch of people subscribed to it already, which means that at least I won’t goose egg the first day? That’d be nice, fer sure.

You’re probably gonna get sick of the word ‘Kickstarter’ over the next month or so, by the way. I gotta advertise this puppy, but I don’t got a budget for that — so I’m resorting to TALKING VERY LOUDLY ABOUT IT. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

…Welp, I’m going to go get a haircut so that I can do the Kickstarter video tomorrow and not look like a mountain man. Right now I’m trying to decide whether to do that before, or after, ONWARD. Probably after. Although I may do the haircut tomorrow, at that. The advice you folks gave about the video text was real handy, but I have yet to actually take it. The lingering effects of this cold… linger.

So, I’ve been out the last couple of days. I miss anything? Probably not. Anyway: spent the morning working on pieces for the next book, which will a collection of short stories set in the same universe as FROZEN DREAMS. A selection of three of them will be a tier reward for the Kickstarter, and at least one of them will be previously unpublished anywhere. It’s very exciting!
