I mostly spent it wondering if this was a cold or the dreaded coronavirus (it’s a cold). I did run some more numbers and thought a little on how the Kickstarter video should go. I’ll probably make it in about a week or so. The trick is to make it as short as possible while still putting in all the information. And, well, not making it look like crap. Yay!

Today I learned how to format chapter headings for a Kindle book ( let Scrivener do it), how to add cover art (let Scrivener do it), and how to fix the way the chapter headings were two-thirds the way down the screen (find where Scrivener did it, and change what Scrivener did). I also figured out where the Dedication/copyright page was! That’s gonna be handy.

So, technical stuff is actually not going too badly.

PS: Oh, I also went through the manuscript and shot all but five uses of ‘of course’ in the head. It had to be done.

The art work is paid for! That feels like a big step to me, folks. Although not as much as the realization that I have a month to finish setting up everything for the Kickstarter (semi-firm start date is April 1st). All in all, I’m rapidly running out of excuses here.

Mostly, today I learned of the giant spike trap that lies in wait for unwary people who think, “Surely you can have Kindle Direct Publishing fulfill your Kickstarter tiers for you! No need to worry!” …I am a naturally unwary person; but I am married to someone who checks things out ahead of time, and thanks to the power of matrimonial osmosis I have picked up the occasional urge to schedule my worrying for when it might actually do me some good.

I didn’t really do much today except write other stuff, but the artist sent over some ink sketches of the cover. They look most nifty, and I can’t wait for people to see them. Which will happen after everything’s done and I’ve paid for it, naturally.

UPDATE: As I said in comments: the beta readers were awesome. But revising SUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKS.

The [expletive deleted] thing has been gone through, revised in light of beta reader suggestions, and is [expletive deleted] done. Well, at least until it goes to my wife again for another read-through, and at some point a copy-editor will need to see it. But it’s DONE, do you hear me? If I absolutely had to, I would publish it today and only groan a little.

Now I just need the money to pay for the copy-editor and the ISBN numbers. Which means that it’s time to start finishing up the prep for the Kickstarter. Yay! …Actually, yeah, kind of ‘yay’ at that.

Got in five chapters before I decided that maybe I should take a nap. I can do the rest tomorrow. And then it’s kind of pre-sorta-done. One pass through with the wife, another with the copyeditor down the road, and that’s that. Fun! And scary!
