Nothing to report, honestly. I still have the Patreon stuff for this month to finish, and although I’m in a good position to have it all done that’s because I was able to get a chunk of it taken care of today. Which is how it goes, sometimes. Honestly, I put this up because I need to give myself good work habits, and regularly reporting to myself what I’ve done is an excellent work habit to get into. Or something.

• …Okay, I am discussing the book cover with the artist. That counts.

Infrastructure, not writing. Although I may get a little in anyway.

• Sent out drafts to beta readers.
• Emailed artist about starting the art process.
• Started thinking about having a dedicated bank account for this sort of thing.

…Crap. I think that the first draft is done.

• 76,774 words. Yikes.
• Added some scenes, filled in some scenes.
• That’s… pretty much it, in terms of the book itself? I mean, it’s gotta get beta-read now. And I have to compile it for that, sure. But… huh.

We’re getting to the ‘hammer down one detail, six more pop up’ stage. This is not a good stage. I need the manuscript completed.

• 75.5K words
• Almost got this fight done.
• Had a Cool Thought.
• Am now trying to figure out how to rewrite final chapter to accommodate Cool Thought.

Decided to power on through various things going on to get back into it. Have done so. Did it help? Meh, but I got some good copy out of it.

• 74.8K words. A lot more than I expected today, honestly.
• Added a scene to justify something.
• Improved on an existing scene.

Today was a bye day. The kids went back to school after a three day weekend, the house needed cleaning for my wife’s monthly A&S get-together, and I just had a bunch of stuff to do. I suspect that I’ll be busy this evening drinking hot chocolate and reading NOS4A2, too: I’ve been trying to read this damned book for a year now and I finally gave up and just ordered a used paperback from Amazon. A little recharging is in order tonight, I think.

Although I did ask around for somebody to do proofreading, though. I won’t need to set that up until March or so, but it doesn’t hurt to get space on people’s calendars ahead of time. OK, so I did do stuff involving the book today after all.

Moving along, with only random external drama along the way. Three day weekend. You know how that can go.

• Started another fight scene.
• They’re in the Brute Squad!

At some point, it may be necessary for me to break my own fingers and send this puppy out to the beta readers. Not quite yet, but we can see it from here. Kind of nerve-wracking, though. Soon there will be no more excuses. Soon.

• 71.6K words.
• Started describing the raid that suddenly became obviously necessary.
• Backstory, backstory, backstory
• Did a rough survey of existing and in-progress short stories in this universe for collection/possible Kickstarter stretch goal. There was more than I thought there’d be.

Wouldn’t you know it: I had a realization in the shower this morning that clears up an issue and gives a reason for a character having died in exchange for writing some more passages. Yay! Or Yay? Haven’t decided yet.

• 70.7K words.
• Got a character’s death justified.
• Got another character a little screen time.

I’m almost done with the revisions, I think. A couple of characters to flesh out, and it’ll be time for the beta readers.

• 70K words. I now think that it’s not going much farther than that.
• Added two characters that need to have at least one more scene.
• Tweaking and adding and straightening out.
