Notre Dame put back just the way it was.

As usual. No, really. Notre Dame has been targeted quite a few times over the last few centuries, and it’s shrugged all of its attackers off, in the end. Far be it from me to suggest that there’s any sort of reason for that, but if you’ve ever played the In Nomine TTRPG, perhaps you may not be surprised…

French Senate decrees Notre Dame must be restored to previous state.

It’s not really a taboo subject for the site, given that a) it’s foreign, b) there’s at least a conceptual link to a RPG*, and c) I said so:

Update on the Notre Dame fire.

They lost the spire and the wooden roof, but saved the main building and the bell towers. The major relics were saved, and it looks like that the Rose Window will hold. French firefighters fought like men possessed by angels to save Notre Dame, and they may have succeeded. Well done.

It’s reported that at least one firefighter was seriously injured in the blaze. Pray for him or her.

Oh, no: Notre Dame cathedral heavily damaged in fire.

I believe that they think that this was an accident stemming from an accident during renovations, but it’s still ongoing. I wouldn’t care to speculate on any other causes until there’s more information; it is, after all, a very old building and entropy gets everything in the end. The damage sounds very bad:

The roof of Paris’ famed Notre Dame Cathedral collapsed Monday as a massive fire ripped through the structure.

The city’s mayor and firefighters warned people to stay away from the area. There have been no confirmed deaths, according to Paris police, while a French government official said no injuries had yet been reported.

A sad day for all of us. I hope that there will be no deaths or injuries, of course. And that as few as possible of the treasures inside were damaged.
