Infamous Obama Cultist song ‘Sing for Change,’ six years later.

This song first showed up in  2008, and it did not age well.  I’m going to put the lyrics under the fold, largely because people need to be reminded about just how messed up some parents can get when it comes to using their children as political props, but let me just note something first: lots of those kids are now trying to find summer jobs.  Good luck, kids! – Because the folks that would hire you for said summer job can just as easily get a fifty year old these days, and frankly they’d rather have those.

And you can thank Barack Obama for that.

The aforementioned lyrics:

We’re gonna spread happiness
We’re gonna spread freedom
Obama’s gonna change it
Obama’s gonna lead ’em

We’re gonna change it
And rearrange it
We’re gonna change the world.

Now’s the moment, lift each voice to sing
Sing with all your heart!
For our children, for our families,
Nations all joined as one.
Sing for joy and sing abundant peace,
Courage, justice, hope!
Sing together, hold each precious hand,
Lifting each other up;
Sing for vision, sing for unity,
Lifting our hearts to Sing!

[The song then devolves into an attempt to do a medieval round, written by someone who has apparently never actually heard a medieval round: a ritual ejaculation of ‘Yes we can.’ eventually rips its way out of the din.]

We’re gonna spread happiness
We’re gonna spread freedom
Obama’s gonna change it
Obama’s gonna lead ’em

We’re gonna change it
And rearrange it
We’re gonna change the world.

…It’s bad enough that somebody did this to their kids.  But dear God but that song is horribly written.  No rhymes, no rhythm, no scansion: nothing but a dreary secular fundamentalism checking off all the ‘right’ boxes and enough smug to choke a horse.  After listening to the song a couple of times – the things that I have to do in this gig! – I feel that I can safely say that it’s just horrid in every single way, and the woman who put the song together should be ashamed of herself. Pretty sure she’s not, though.

  1. Shouldn’t someone (Moe) maintain a searchable database of eager participants in this and other follies so that employers can make….informed decisions in the future?

        1. Just gonna point out that this is America, we were *invented* by people looking to reinvent themselves…

  2. Am I correct in assuming that if your eldest’s school attempted to get him to participate in something like this, the results would be…bad?

    1. I don’t know what you mean: I’d be exquisitely reasonable and civil in the way that I wouldn’t let them get away with it.

      1. Okay, now there’s something I wouldn’t mind seeing … “Moe Lane’s hypothetical letters to a school board”.

Moe Lane puts himself in the place of one of the parents and .. delivers grammar-perfect, devastatingly cutting yet undeniably civil replies….

Hey, if Jimmy Kimmel can sell a book of snarky “thank you notes” …

        1. It’s funny: I get the feeling that my kids’ school systems are quietly fighting Common Core themselves. Certainly we haven’t seen any of the horror stories that are cropping up elsewhere.

          1. I am not sufficiently plugged in here anymore to know, Junior Cat being all collegiate-level now, but .. I harbor similar suspicions.

I think some of the grey-hairs in administration remember “New Math”…
            .
Oh, that reminds me .. I know Common Core seems to have become a political football, but can anyone remember if New Math was pushed by one party or the other? I’m suspecting but would appreciate a confirm.. although I know it was a less “you will be made to care” kind of a time.
