  1. So .. what gear do I need for this ?

This is a serious question – I need to replace the XBOX 360 in .. call it mid-2016, if I’m lucky .. and whatever I go with has to either be a drop-in replacement (i.e. play all the XBOX 360 games) or has to coexist (i.e. “just another HDMI cable”)

        1. It is, but you can plug in a controller on the PC versions and get the much superior console UI that the games were designed for.

As far as a drop-in replacement for the 360, the XBONE isn’t quite there yet. The backwards compatibility didn’t ship until last month, so it’s still pretty sparse, but they’re planning on adding more games to it over time. Right now I’m playing through on the XBONE, at some point, probably next Christmas or the one after I’ll probably pick up the PC version that has all the DLC and play through it again on PC with mods. That’s what I did for Fallout 3.

        2. But it’s the only way to get the mods.
Being a Bethesda game, you know they’ll make the entire toolkit available, and actively encourage any aspiring programmers to have fun playing in their world. (And hiring the ones who really impress them. Because duh.)

Sure, the console game is good for a couple hundred hours (it is a Bethesda game, after all). But within a few months, there will be double that in fan-created content.

To answer the question, F4 is strictly next-gen on consoles. (Although F4 is also the game likely to tip them from next-gen to current-gen.)

          1. Yep, I’m at the tip point, heck probably the jump point – the 360 is gettin’ old, and the XBONE is not appealing as a drop-in replacement.

The idea of a game PC with HDMI out and a game style controller appeals, especially if it’ll also play DVDs (never went blu-ray, didn’t see the point since streaming / the cloud was obvious by then) and stream and run Steam…
