I was under the impression that the ‘fatherland’ of Barack Obama was the United States of America.

If you look at the page to which you’ve linked, it actually says “his father’s homeland”, which was indeed Kenya (he returned there after leaving Obama’s mother and died there). The version you have is a misquote.
