You don’t, strictly speaking, have to click past the title – “She certainly packs a punch! Octomom defeats ‘Long Island Lolita’ Amy Fisher in the ring at celebrity boxing bout” – but I would, anyway, if only to see the gloves.
Reality. It defeats me, once again.
One of Heinlein’s motifs was “the crazy years”. The books of his “Future History” series have a lot of pseudoquotes from newspaper articles of the then-future relating crazy things. I doubt very seriously that he would have included anything from the actual present-day newspapers. They’re just too crazy for belief.
In the Future History, “the crazy years” lead up to revolution and theocracy under the Rev. Nehemiah Scudder. Heinlein said in one of his memoirs that he had the book, titled The Sound of His Wings, plotted and ready to go, but couldn’t write it because it was too disgusting. This is probably a good thing. It would likely have been used as a how-to manual, as Nineteen Eighty-Four and Atlas Shrugged have been.
