Protesters arrested in nationwide pro-fast food automation protests.

Although for some reason they’re calling them ‘minimum wage increase protests:’

Police handcuffed dozens of protesters who blocked traffic in dozens of cities across the country on Thursday in their latest attempt to escalate efforts to get McDonald’s, Burger King and other fast-food companies to pay employees at least $15 an hour.

The protests, which were planned by labor organizers for about 150 cities nationwide throughout Thursday, are part of a campaign called “Fight for $15.”

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I’ll do it again: the only reason that these jobs aren’t automated now is because it’s cheaper to hire a human. Change that, and the job goes away. Admittedly, at this rate it’s eventually going to be a great time to be a automatic burger dispenser mechanic, but that’s a job that actually requires training.

  1. I’m interested in learning more about the exciting field of automatic burger dispenser repair – does Lincoln Tech or ITT offer a course?

    1. They will. And by the time my kids are college age, at the rate things are going, ‘mechanic’ or ‘electrician’ might start being one of those jobs that men do until they marry a business executive or lawyer. Certainly that’ll be the situation for my grandkids, at this rate…

  2. The technology is advancing but may be too fancy. For example, this version allows custom grinds of meat which presents the problem that pork or poultry have different cooking requirements from beef or bison.

Some people have experienced problems with parasites or bacteria caught when supermarkets used the same grinding machines for different types of meats without cleaning them in between

… The next generation of the device will offer “custom meat grinds for every single customer. Want a patty with 1/3 pork and 2/3 bison ground to order? No problem.”…

  3. This is just another attempt to distract people from the fact that the economy is a total disaster. The fact people are trying to get a “livable wage” as a fast food worker, demonstrates that the Obama Administration and Democrats are full of it whenever they say the economy has recovered.
