The basic problem is that I’m in the middle of a two-day session with the dentist. Today’s stuff went fine (new crown put in, finally), and tomorrow’s is going to be fine, too – only I really don’t like going to the dentist, so it makes me all itchy-titchy and so forth. I’ll be happy when this is actually over, so that I can go back to not thinking about the sound of the drill.
Yeah, I know. Screaming neuroses. What can you do?
For me, it was never the sound of the drill, it was the smoke/dust that rose out of my mouth during the work.
Both, and *thanks* for reminding me of them.

You have all my sympathy, Moe. I just had 2 temporary crowns put on today, and the anesthetic is just wearing off. It’s starting to hurt. I picked up some kidney damage a few years ago from a bad kidney infection, so I can’t take anything significant for the pain. Tylenol just doesn’t cut it. Cue the urge to clench the teeth, but that isn’t a good idea, either.
I have a phobia about dentists from my childhood, where a dishonest dentist was soaking my parents for my dental work. He was finally outed by his former receptionist, and my mother changed dentists, but I still recall sitting in that chair while he drilled holes in my perfectly healthy teeth and filled them, all the while without any painkiller. I was about 5, so I had no idea it wasn’t supposed to hurt.
I had two cracked teeth today, from clenching my teeth due to stress — caused by current politics. I don’t mean to, but I’ll be reading the blogs and suddenly realize my jaw is hurting from the teeth clenching. Sigh. I’m going to have to find some other way of dealing with it. The current bill was 2200 dollars. No dental insurance. This could get expensive if I don’t find some other way of handling it. Besides, I really don’t like sitting in the dentist’s chair listening to the music of the drill.
Ouch. Modern politics ain’t worth cracked teeth at all.
