The twist this year is that I’d like some advice for a good, non-political charity for my Christmas giving. I mean, obviously I’m going to give stuff to Toys for Tots. But it’d still be nice to have a couple of new worthy causes to highlight.
So sing out in comments.
I remember hearing good things about the Electronic Frontier Foundation in the past, but I haven’t looked into what they’re up to recently (where recently could be as much as ‘this century’).
Greyhound Welfare (Yeah, I’m biased) and Salvation Army (After all, you pointed out that they help people with real problems).
The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a good ‘un.
You might look into water charities — the easiest, most important problem to solve in the developing world. Charity:water (charitywater.org) and water.org both have good reps.
They’re good charities, but the family already donates to those. 🙂
My charity of choice is the local Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Mrs. Cat has a couple faves, many already mentioned here.

I keep hearing good things about Wounded Warrior Project, and also MikeRoweWORKS.

I’m not aware of bias in either, and Rowe’s repeated (hilarious) slapping of critics is worth the price of admission …

How about the one that sends animals to start food and support for families in the third world? I got the catalogue of what you can send, but I am completely blanking on its name…I want to send someone some chicks or baby ducks….
There’s at least two you’ve described .. Oxfam and WorldVision .. I’m sure there are others.
