The Racket certainly sounds like it was. Why can’t *I* get in on one?

I gotta admit, Erick’s reaction to this piece (on something that was going to be called The Racket) is pretty spot-on:

…What I mostly don’t understand is why I don’t know any rich idiots who will give me and a bunch of other people quite large sums of money to sit in a trendy loft somewhere and engage in year-long planning sessions for a magazine that was actually political performance art. Possibly it’s because I don’t smoke the marijuana? – Because that article reeks of the marijuana. Not that I would know anything about that sort of thing, of course.

Anyway.  You will find this article fascinating, although I would personally recommend taking on the mindset of an anthropologist studying a foreign culture. Because otherwise you might end up feeling old.

  1. I had an idea for a monthly Amazon Kindle magazine (and yes, they sell magazines on the Kindle) that publishes fictional novels, one chapter at a time (with a couple of novels starting and stopping at different times). Then when the novel was finished, I would publish the novel only on the Kindle. The idea was to buy the novel from the author outright and then give 70% of the eBook Kindle sales to the author.

For some reason this is a dumb idea (don’t any of you wise guys try to steal this idea), because I have yet to meet anyone who likes it. However this sounds like a better idea than that “insurgent journalism” nonsense.
