When and if Californians flee Dust Bowl 2.0, please note this…

REMEMBER WHY YOU LEFT. Because if you don’t, you will probably be pointedly reminded by the native inhabitants of your new states*.  And if you have the supreme idiocy to still own a Green Party membership card… SHRED** IT BEFORE YOU LEAVE CALIFORNIA.  Better safe than sorry, boychik.

*There is actually some polling that suggests that outward migration from Blue states does not actually cause the ensuing… enBlueination? Azuring? – of Red ones, or at least not to the extent feared by Red state inhabitants.  Not that this is going to stop the Red state natives from keeping an eye on Blue state immigrants for a while.  Just in case.

**Normally I’d say ‘burn it’ – but after forty years of environmental activism, California’s so dry that one misplaced match could burn down half the state.  No sense taking chances.

  1. I have observed, more than once, that all the “blue Texas” types seem to completely miss the virulence of the Texan culture ..
    .
I have also observed, more than once, that the Coloradan culture is an example of .. lower virulence. Y’all recovering from the last wave of Cali-locusts yet, twister?

    1. They’re getting there, actually. As somebody noted on Twitter Election Night, if we had known letting ’em smoke weed and vote from their couch would get us a Senate seat and flip the state Senate, we might have signed off on it earlier.

      1. I am cautiously optimistic that The Blueprint was a trick that could work rarely, if only because of the challenge of finding a particular subset of wealthy fools to fund it.

As for the demise of Sen. Uterus, I think that was more his own doing .. Udall caught Jack Haley** Syndrome and it was his undoing.

        1. The “Blueprint” was only going to work as long as they threw ridiculous amounts of money around… that fortunately has a shelf life.

          1. Concur. I am optimistic that, following the 2020 census, Colorado will get to re-draw maps, and that the right people will be involved in that process…

    2. It’s a mixed bag, though as Moe correctly notes in his reply, keeping them stoned keeps them away from the ballot box, so this may continue for awhile.

  2. There was an article I read a while back (forget which or where) that argued people leaving California for, in this case, Texas were the more conservative people. Among other reasons (such as the damage wrought by Pete Wilson), that could explain why the Republican Party here starts election seasons in such a hole.

  3. /will vote for any plan to break up California that doesn’t stick San Diego with SF and/or LA. Yes, this will cost us money. It’d be worth it.

    1. Nine years ago, for me. (“A what deserting a sinking what, did you say?”)

Yes, the trend for at least twenty years has been for the more conservative (read “productive” or “taxable”) people to leave. (Silicon Valley has been a special case, but it’s happening there, too.) The process is like distillation, in that what remains is the stuff you don’t want in a self-supporting society.

      1. Hollywood types make up another of the “taxable” pools and .. curiously .. more and more have been moving their “legal residence”, i.e. where they *pay* taxes, elsewhere… even though plenty of star types still continue to pay property and some sales tax in the once-golden state.

      2. I may regret this, but – Muskegon, Michigan!
A city on Lake Michigan looking for a renewal (of some kind). There are four seasons, a Great Lake, plenty of land, plenty of major universities nearby. While the US auto companies are hard-hit, there are plenty of very good engineers in-state that know how to mesh chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering together with electronics. And if you need machinists who can handle anything you throw at them – they are here!

Again – the Sunset Coast of Michigan is waiting for you!
