…Well, that last bit was creatively draining.

And, alas, not particularly easy to monetize.  Speaking of which: I really, really need to figure out how to get more interest in the Patreon thing.  I hesitate to do the obvious, which is to whine about it on Twitter until people take pity on me, but that may be what it takes.  Anybody out there successfully doing it that has tips to share?

  1. “The esoteric secrets of the ancients” has long been a favorite of con-men and cult leaders (and has caused many of the former to inadvertently become the latter–sometimes to their horror).
Monetizing your writings that support the conceit is child’s play.
But money isn’t everything. There are many worse things than being poor.

  2. Your guess is as good as mine. I am actually putting out a product and I have to even get single hit in seven months.

Even so, you seem to have more luck just asking for donations. What exactly are you complaining about man?

  3. If you do something monthly on Patreon, every month, without fail, post a teaser here, with a link for your Patreon supporters to get at the full version. Tweet a link to the post, along with a description in whatever marketing terms you elect to use.

    1. On a similar note, I see a lot of folks like Howard Tayler have Patron-exclusive content. That way, contributors get a little something, even if the larger goals are not yet attained.

  4. The only person I regularly read who seems to have made a partial living from Patreon is Shamus Young, at Twenty-Sided. He probably has 2-3 long posts, a podcast, and a let’s play video a week [involving other people with the podcast and video]. But he regularly has 100 or so comments on a post, and at one point wrote about trying to sell his house and eventually being foreclosed on [before Petreon]. Don’t know how applicable that would be.
