Experiment: the Saturday Odd And Interesting Gaming Fodder Site open thread.

Basically, tell us of interesting gaming sites.  Ground rules:

  • It should be weird;
  • It should not be egregiously offensive (The SCP Foundation would be fine; stuff that just wants to gross you out is not);
  • And it probably shouldn’t be out to grind any particular ideological ax.

Other than that, knock yourself out. If people like this feature then maybe I’ll make it a regular one.

  1. My first thought was to do some snark: “There WAS this cool page that had a lot of GURPS worlds, by some RedState guy, but it went stale a long time ago…”
    Then, I thought, nah, take the high road, Prayerborne, and come up with a cool game resource to share. But, doggone it, every one I could think of was introduced to me by YOU, sir.
    So, as one of those who don’t say this to you enough, thanks for running this site, Moe. đŸ™‚

    1. I got most of my stuff this go round, initially, from Jeffro Johnson. jeffro.wordpress.com Major Car Wars fan, GMs ACKS, doing a bunch of reviews of Appendix N stories. I haven’t heard if he has gotten the Hugo, but I thought he had it coming.

        1. OK, I can understand burning the fields and salting the earth. Sometimes a Fabian defense is the best you can manage.
          But celebrating it as a victory? They burned their own award show to the ground rather than share it with wrongfans having wrongfun, and they’re ecstatic about it.

          1. I largely stayed out of the Hugo thing. I mean, if one side doesn’t want to admit that it’s a problem if half the potential reader base thinks that ‘Hugo winner’ is now a negative factor in finding a new author to read, there’s not much I can do about that. However, from what I could tell last night, this Wesley Chu dude has all of the Left’s deep loathing of the Right, without the talent level of a Charlie Stross or a John Scalzi* to make up for it. So I actually learned how to remove a book from my Kindle account, because I wasn’t feeling compelled to read more than a few chapters of Lives of Tao anyway.

            *Although Scalzi likes to tap-dance on the edge of that more than he should.

          2. I figure we’re in phase 3 on the Mahatma scale:
            .
            First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
            .
            Mahatma Gandhi
            .
            Next year ought to be … very entertaining. For the puppy-watchers, I mean. Gonna be hell on the hatey-shoutey SJWs.

        2. It is no shame to be cheated of an award by the same bunch of white supremacists who cheated Toni Weisskopf and John Wright.

  2. Okay, I’ve got an oldie.

    Once upon a time back in the early days of the interwebz, there was an Army Specialist called “Skippy” and he got in trouble. A lot. So much that he compiled a list of things that he was no longer allowed to do. http://skippyslist.com/list/
    .
    Well, these days Skippy is making card games, and getting sued by Paramount for doing so. But that’s not important right now. Skippy’s list inspired a lot of similar lists, including the (currently) 2375 Things That Mr. Welch Can No Longer Do in an RPG. http://theglen.livejournal.com/16735.html
    .
    Fun Note- Skippy and Mr. Welch apparently know each other IRL and were unaware that the other was the one who wrote *that* list.

  3. I’ve been reading a lot of Pete’s GURPS Dungeon Fantasy campaign at dungeonfantastic.blogspot.com. Some interesting folks on his sidebar.
    .
    Of course, roleplaying is riddled with problematic views on race. Many think that Hobbits and Dwarves should be anything other than Fighting Men, or that they should advance beyond the fourth or sixth levels.

  4. Toon – haven’t you always wanted to play Bugs? or Taz? or…

    Kobolds Ate My Baby! – character survival is SO overrated…

    Floating Vagabond, Teenagers from Outer Space – beer and pretzels time, folks!

    Bunnies and Burrows – so CUTE!

    1. There are a lot of D&D retroclones out these days. Adventurer Conqueror King System has apparently put a huge amount of detail into the economy, which meshes well with their handling of the domain level game, which meshes with their Domains at War war game.
      .
      GURPS has Dungeon Fantasy now. It uses templates to simplify things to make an early D&D experience fun at the 250 point level.

      Exalted third edition is supposed to be coming out soon, last I heard.
