There’s a fascinating video of Bruce Springsteen taking this song away from the band while they were onstage with him. It’s downright epic, in fact. I almost felt bad about it.

’97 VMAs? Just looked it up. Say what you will about the man, but Bruce simply doesn’t phone it in. Ever.
Tom Petty coulda took that song, too; methinks.
I’d watch Petty and Springsteen do a set.
Now *that* would be fairly epic. But which songs?
.
I can see “Free Falling” and “Glory Days” from each, to start.
But I *really* want to see a jam on “You Got Lucky”
he song itself is kinda whiny and depressing. Bruce does not do whiny. not sure he’s capable of it.
Unless you count the subject matter of nearly every famous song he’s ever done.
Exactly. He writes whiny and depressing, but apparently cannot perform that way.
Anybody catch the recent (2012) Wallflowers album, “Glad All Over”? I didn’t even hear about it for a year, then found it and loved it.
No link – I’ll let Moe profit from that. Check it out if you liked The Wallflowers.
Way, way back –when I was on the adjunct faculty at IUPUI teaching basic composition — I required attendance (it really does matter). Any absence had to be pre-approved. Examples of exceptions I listed were: in the hospital (broken leg w/ a cast did NOT qualify… obviously the student was mobile), car wreck on the way to class, or having scored Bruce Springsteen concert tickets.
