    1. Drudge has headline of the film being “anti-white.” If it’s got an a Leftist agenda, it not worth anything to me.

The Hollywood of today is just too far gone…

      1. The link on Drudge sounds a little crazy. But I could see it turning into an anti-war, Stormtropper gets shot down, sees the rebellion’s point of view, learns war doesn’t solve anything kind of lesson.

        1. Wait.
“Sees the rebellion’s point of view…” which involves armed rebellion – shooting and killing and blowing up stuff.
“Learns war doesn’t solve anything…” which is why the rebellion has decided to resort to arms which involves shooting, and killing and blowing up stuff.

          1. I didn’t say it made sense. But I could see them intentionally going with a “Violence only leads to more violence” kind of theme. Whether or not that’s what happens, no clue.

  1. I’m not willing to buy a ticket this far out (partly because I don’t know where I’ll actually be on the 18th, as family Christmas is still a bit up in the air), but I resigned myself to having my butt in a seat as soon as I could, years ago.
    .
Looks like it could be a rewarding experience.

  2. I’m waiting for reviews from people I trust.
    .
I’m not going to sit through another Phantom Menace.
And all the identity politics BS surrounding the new book (in open defiance of canon) has me nervous. I can’t see Disney not having oversight of the project, which implies to me that it’s deliberate.

  3. I think the post’s title needs editing to “The Force Awakens” and not “The Force Unleashed.”

  4. For a while I was counting on Disney not to kill the golden goose over politics but then I saw what they did to the Muppets….

  5. I’ll watch, but I’m still incredibly disappointed by the “EU doesn’t count anymore” decision.

  6. Face it, we SW fan boys & girls will kvetch as we put our butts in the seats, even if we suspect it’s a steaming pile of SWJ merde…but see it we will…me in particular because JJ.

  7. Tickets going for over $1000 on eBay already. Pure insanity.

And no, I don’t have the Star Wars music in my library. I didn’t see the original until it had been out for 15 months. Good movie at the time, but all that hype for this?

I think perhaps you had to be under 16 to appreciate it when you first saw it.

    1. Yes, yes you did. It was fun. It was pure adventure. You had bad guys being bad. You had good guys being good. And you had sort of bad – sort of good guys coming in at the last moment to help the good guys.
And spaceships and explosions and robots and damsels in distress and heroic exploits against a vast background. You know – all of the stuff that the culture was saying that we were not going to see and farewell to bad rubbish.
Look – if you recall the early to mid 1970’s you’ll understand why Star Wars was so important.
(And the Imperial March – love it.)

      1. Yes, I understand what it did to movies (and television) with CGI. All you have to do is watch Space 1999 (1976) and then Battlestar Gallactica (1978) to see the impact the movie had.

As a movie though, it wasn’t that good. Terrible acting (save for Harrison Ford) and buddhist philosophy.

I much prefer Star Trek (although is has it’s own philosophical issues). Stories were better, and it had actual actors.
