It sounds vaguely familiar; and my wife sent me a link to some sort of show that they’re doing in DC in April. I dunno if I want to invest the time in it, though. I mean, the idea of “a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff’s Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events” does seem like the sort of thing that I’d be into; but there are only 168 hours in a week, and I feel a little compressed as it is.
So, does anybody listen to it already?
I tried it, but I couldn’t get into it. There’s just so much content, and the completist in me needed to listen to all of it. Now, the Black Tapes Podcast…
Black Tapes Podcast?
Sorry; I guess I was feeling enigmatic last night. 🙂
It’s basically a Serial-type podcast but for paranormal stuff. Basically, it looks at a series of unexplained paranormal events (largely invented for the podcast) in a documentary/radio broadcast style. It has an overarching mystery, and the stories are often outright creepy. It just started its second season. It’s a twice-monthly podcast, too, but it has less of a catalog to slog through. It’s my current favorite.
I’m a huge fan, and it is SO totally your thing. For some reason, I had thought you were already listening, or I’d have been trying to get you hooked on it already! Two thumbs up!
Tried it. Didn’t really work for me.
Two reasons:
1. Horror and humor are all about timing, and it’s like everything’s a half beat off. (Kind of like Mars Attacks, if you get what I’m saying.)
2. The main character is gay, and his romantic aspirations are a major focus. Squick.
I’m 20+ episodes in so far. I like the writing, but the actor doing the reading…He. Enunciates. A. Bit. Too. Much. Like. Every. Bad. Actor. You. Ever. Saw. In. Community. Theater.
Not EGREGIOUSLY so, but just enough to be cumulatively off-putting after awhile.
Also, +1 to both of Luke’s points, above.
