Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers (red/green/bell/jalapeno), eggplant, goji berries, tomatillos, and tobacco are all nightshades.

I know this because one of the cat clan is sensitive enough to nightshades that I’m forever standing in grocery store aisles reading ingredients to make sure some “vegan” or “gluten-free” treat doesn’t include potatoe starch, a cheap replacement for wheat flour.

I see no particular reason why a grafted composite couldn’t thrive, although I’ll admit I didn’t think grafting was all that common for annuals. Usually, it’s something in the woody-stem long-lived plants…
