Results tonight. [UPDATE: Whew.]

RedState for the analysis; AoSHQDD for the raw totals. Polls ain’t closing for a while yet, so pace yourself when it comes to chewing fingernails. It’ll be a long night, thanks not least to time zones.

[UPDATE: going better than we at RedState were fearing, and not too far off from where we were hoping. Cruz grabbing TX and OK; Rubio looks good in MN and held Trump to under 3 points in VA; AR is a battlezone; and Donald Trump somehow managed to not get an endorsement that he really, really wanted wrt Florida. Fascinating, really.]

    1. Rubio is done. The Establishment can get behind Cruz, or they can burn the GOP down. Period.

      1. Rubio’s not done. Rubio’s clearly in third now, in a three-person race, but the man has been testing out a new campaign strategy for less than a week. I want to see what happens at the debate tomorrow and the caucuses on Saturday.

That said, Cruz is clearly in second right now.

  1. Disappointed in the results out of TN, Trump seemed to win that a little to easy. Virginia will be close. If Rubio can’t win any of these diverse set of states, where can he win? Polling against Hillary is meaningless at this point. At this rate I am just hoping that Trump can’t get to the magic number before the convention and have a old fashioned brokered convention. Because if Trump keeps getting between 35-40% in many states a 3 man race is still likely a win for Trump. Would happily vote for Cruz.

Well if things go sideways, I will join Moe to talk about RPGs and other fun diversions while the party burns without me.

    1. Cruz beats Hillary as well. The idea that only Rubio could win the general is an Establishment figment. That’s quite aside from the fact that polling for the general in the primary is dubious at best.

  2. After voting in the primary, I and everyone else who showed up at the precinct convention got selected to be delegates to the senate district convention. Does that mean I’m officially part of the establishment now?

    1. If I have to be part of the establishment (and tonight means that I ‘get’ to stay part of the establishment for just a little bit while longer. Yay. Huzzah. Whoopie.), then you have to be part of the establishment, too.

          1. See, *if it were true*, I’d expect a higher level of raw competence .. on the level Moe regularly brings, for example ..

As the hypothetical D.C. nerd-hive does not operate at that level, I reject your premise.

  3. Cruz winning Oklahoma by 6 points means that Trump is 0 for 2 in states with closed primaries or caucuses. Why is this important? Because 27 of the 50 are closed primaries or caucuses.
We’ll know more on Saturday, when there are closed caucuses in Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Maine. I’m hoping Trump will go 0 for 4 in those.

    1. Alabama , I’ll just point out, is what happens when people vote ideological rather than strategically….

      1. I live in Alabama . I have long touted the Alabama that pulls in world class industry : Airbus , Mercedes , Hyundai and their suppliers . I have voted for and contributed to Jeff Sessions and have long said that were a national candidate wrap themselves in Sessions ‘ immigration politics and policies that the electoral votes of Ohio and Pa would be very much in play come November . And this AM I am appalled by the results of yesterday . I wish I could hide behind the Pauline Kael mask , but I do know people that voted for Trump . My cursory ” Why ? ” brings forth no answer beyond the visceral .And these are middle and upper middle class folks . One does see the Trump yard signs in the front of double wides out the country , positioned next to the flagpole that flies the Stars and Bars . But I would expect to see that up the North Country of NH too , every where that bitterness reigns over reason . This AM all I can say in defense of my adopted home is that my county , Shelby County , at last voted to permit Sunday liquor sales . Not that it much matters to me but it was one of those artificacts of the Bible Belt Bozarts era and left a bad taste in the mouth (sic). On the other hand , looking at a ballot of Trump v Clinton , strong drink and plenty of it may be soon required . BTW , I voted Cruz , having given up on Rubio , now concluding that he is too close to the Donor Class that has gotten us in this mess .

        1. Beautiful State, Alabama, wonderful people, great food…

Politically, though .. y’all still have a bit further to go.
