…Which is, bizarrely, not going to be a movie about Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch.
The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that they acquired U.S. rights to the upcoming Wind River. The project is directed by Sicario screenwriter Taylor Sheridan and marks his directorial debut and stars two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (American Hustle, The Hurt Locker) along with Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers).
It’s gonna be some thing about an FBI agent and a brooding game warden investigating a murder out in the woods, or something like that. Now, far be it from me to tell people what they should write and/or direct, but: apparently at this point Marvel can put together whatever goram movie they please and people will line up to throw money at it. They grossed half a billion bucks out of Ant-Man; I suspect that they would have signed off on Sheridan pretty much doing what he originally wanted to do in Wind River — just with, you know, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. Heck, do it right and it even could be Oscar-bait.
But never mind me. No, really. There’s probably a good reason why this scenario is self-evidently absurd.
Oh, heck, I thought the movie was going to be something about VxWorks.
TWC (The Weinstein Company) is not Marvel. Unlike Marvel who understand that making the movie audience want (thus making money in the process), TWC are more interested in making their brand of movie. It could be good or bad, but most assuredly it will be leftist.
They choose… poorly.
