Well, yes, it was a filk. Most of the songs on that project were. π
Moe,
Are you familiar with the filk community? Perhaps you’ve run across Joe Bethancourt. He was very active in the movement in the Mountain States. He was a very accomplished musician, like he played more than 60 stringed instruments.
I’ve known a couple of his cousins for more than 40 years and have seen him live at least 40 times.
Regards
Good LORD yes I know of Master Ioseph of Locksley! The man’s a legend in SCA bardic. π
I understand he passed away recently, which is a big sad for me. There’s a lot of his stuff on Youtube. Maybe you could slip some in on the blog occasionally.
Of course you’ll never see him at his best on the videos. The man was pure magic in a small room. He’d be up there with maybe 10 or 15 stringed instruments and take you on a trip through the music of Appalachia mixed in with contemporary and classical gems. His own stuff was delightful. I don’t thing he ever uttered a profanity in his life but he’d have you laughing and you’d get this vague twinge that this was maybe NSFW. He’d have the audience splitting their sides with laughter and then the next minute they’d be crying in their beer.
This one comes close to showing how he could grab an audience. Intimate, bitter sweet nostalgia.
Not quite as exotic and esoteric as you might think.

Damn it, Moe. This set me on a long trip down memory lane in the wee hours. And gin. Maybe a little too much gin.
I’ve used βMe and my 30β06β from time to time.
That’a a good one.
