Most writers I know are working another job, or living with a spouse or partner who is and who pays most of the bills. You ask the biggest name writers you can think of what their advice for writers is, and the common thread is going to be: find another way to pay the bills.
Ain’t it, just.
I prefer Larry Corriea’s take on it: Bust your ass off, write a lot and get paid.
But busting your ass has never been terribly popular.
(And until recently, publishers would not put out two books by the same author in the same year. Most still won’t, but there are now other options.)
