I’m not even upset: it could very well be an awesome flick. It’s got fireballs and magic swords and Oliphaunts and dryads and exploding armies and kung fu and… OK, yeah, half of the SCA will be there on Opening Night and I’ll probably be one of them. Still. How did he get away with going gonzo like this?
I mean, I liked The Man From U.N.C.L.E., but apparently not enough other people did.
I take it that the plot is cleverly hidden to avoid detection?
This looks… interesting.
To the good:
1) I have always loved the Sword in the Stone mythos. This goes part and parcel with the “The King is the land, the land is the king idea that is kind of an allegory on the good ruler= good kingdom, bad ruler= sick kingdom.
2) From the trailer, it looks like they are completely bypassing the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot/Morgana mess- which is something modern depictions focus on (with the exception of the otherwise craptacular “King Arthur” with Clive Owen.)
To the bad:
1) It does seem to be a kind of jumbled mess as far as story goes. It has a King Arther/Lord of the Rings mashup feel.

Still, it could be decent. The trailer certainly had some nuggets of gold in it, if they focus on those- it could be surprisingly good.
“‘But why is [Excalibur] back in the stone?’ Tomokato asked.
.
“‘Mordred smeared Krazy Glue all over it and shoved it back in the slot,’ Arthur answered. ‘Last thing he did before he left home. I can still hear him shouting as he rode off: “You can do some crazy things with it!”‘
.
“‘Is it true that he’s you son?’ Tomokato asked. ‘What an unnatural child!’
.
“‘Actually,’ Arthur said, ‘he’s my sister’s kid.’
.
“Merlin coughed.”

Rats. I also liked Man from U.N.C.L.E., and was hoping for another installment.
