…Yeah, sorry, got caught up in Fallout New Vegas’ Old World Blues.

It’s a really, really, really messed up DLC.  I’m enjoying the heck out of it, but it’s also teaching me that my per-level skill choices started out bad and stayed that way for a while.  Fixing it has been… energetic.

  1. Oh, ho! One of my favorites. The Big Empty is a laugh riot. Cuppy, the dog gun, co-dependent armor, Science bots voiced by Professor Farnsworth and Dr. Venture… good times.

  2. All of the New Vegas DLC is great…(arguably better than the main game, which is pretty good). Dead Money gets some grief, but I dug it.

    1. See, this is where I seemingly diverge from the rest of Fallout Fandom. I liked Dead Money the best of all. It had good atmosphere. A great setting. Very well done characters. It made me care about how the drama that was acted out 200 years previous had turned out.

If I had to rank F:NV DLC, I would probably go:
      1) Dead Money.
2&3) A tie between Honest Hearts and Old World Blues. I liked the humor and wackiness of the Big MT, but I liked the setting, natural beauty, and characters of Zion. Plus, another example where I really cared about the situation. And the Father in the Cave storyline is probably the best story that has ever been told in Fallout. It perfectly encapsulated what makes Fallout Fallout. It strikes a perfect balance between tragedy and personal loss vs hope and triumph that I am still not sure that Bethesda understands yet. Hmmm, maybe I should have Honest hearts in a tie with Dead Money.
      4) Lonesome Road.

  3. Did you pick Wild Wasteland when you created your character? That really pays off in Old World Blues.

  4. Which starts the gentle murmur in the back of your head: …maybe it would be easier to start a new character?… It wouldn’t take that long… I know where everything is now… I would like to try a new, straight up gunslinger play-through anyway…

You know the game that was arguably the worst for this? Mass Effect. You did not just have one game where you went: I wonder what would have happened if I… You had THREE. I would be sitting in Mass Effect 3 and thinking, Ash is kind of a bit-ka. Did I have a playthrough where Kaiden survived? Oops, in that one I romanced Ash, but let her make the sacrifice. Well, that was silly. Hmmm…

This is how I got well over a 1000+ hours played in the first game. And that could be a lowball estimate. Heck, I am still thinking of hooking up the 360 just to play through that series again. And I probably will.

    1. I did not have the heart to put Shepard through that again. Citadel allowed me to put her in Valhalla, where is where she will stay… with my profound apologies.
