Assuming that this just isn’t torture porn, that is.

I mean, the scenario starts off as absurd and doesn’t get any less so as the trailer progresses. It’s like a heavily modded-for-extra-gore, real-time version of a Vault-Tec experiment, sure – but the Fallout series never bothers to try to justify those experiments, mostly because there’s no real justification for them. So what fear is The Belko Experiment trying to face?
Corporations are faceless, inhuman, and evil. Like The Cube or The Purge, it addresses fears that I think are absurd and misplaced.
Eh, I can see it having some resonance if you work in a cubical farm, receive regular guidance from corporate that is nonsensical or counterproductive, and secretly hate/fear your co-workers.
.
I think the demographic slice is large enough for the movie to turn a profit as long as they keep it low budget. (But unless I miss my guess at what actors I recognise get paid… I don’t think they did.)
So… combining the Prisoner’s [Mortal] Dilemma from SAW with the Evil Corporation trope, and scaled up?
.
*shrugs* Pretty much torture-pr0n.
