…And damned if I remember what the 7th Sea adventure was going to be about. Well, not entirely true: it’s about a couple of families in Castille and a marriage and beer. And it was a comedy, not a tragedy. Other than that… well, I hope my players kept good notes.

PS: Nah, none of them read this site and even if they did they’d just make up something that advantages their characters and I’d run with it. Like you do.
Hey!
No giving away GM secrets like that. What the heck would the world come to if they realized that we’re winging it 90% of the time.
Sheesh. Although, I am gonna have to take a look at this 7th Sea thing.
” theyโd just make up something that advantages their characters and Iโd run with it”
.
Heh, there never has been an advantage gained for the characters that I couldn’t easily turn into a very mixed blessing if I felt it was warranted.
point being, yeah that is indeed, “like you do”
True. But, hey, if I forget my notes then it’s only fair that they get something out of it. It’s not their fault, right?
As long as they don’t take too much advantage. If they do, I let it fly…generally into the side of a mountain they should have seen coming ๐ Sometimes they manage a “controlled crash” into less than ideal circumstances or a “high altitude emergency egress under sub-optimal conditions”, but I have found that the type of player who will overplay that kind of scenario will stubbornly
(Rackin frackin fat fingers hitting wrong keys posted before I was ready)
…will often stubbornly cling to an ‘advantage’ which has them ‘pulling “agro” above their level’so to speak. (a sudden ‘power-up’ does tend to attract the attention of powerful entities, not all of it friendly ๐ )
.
I don’t really like dealing with players who see the g.m.-player relationship as adversarial, but I have had to get good at it.
Like you do is accurate.
Like they do, isn’t necessarily. Sneaky/evil players will make up something clearly disadvantageous that gives them control over the story. (Would I deliberately accept a fifteen point disad to choose the campaign arc? In a heartbeat.)
